TREE AND LEAF
Loudoun County, VA
Tree and Leaf is dedicated to tending the balance of our farm's natural ecosystem. Our intensive sustainable-growing practices are designed to reflect nature rhythms through out the seasons. The farm is located in Waterford, VA, and is a national historic landmark. We grow a diverse selection of vegetables, herbs and flowers and currently have a 30-week Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) which services our local Loudoun County community and the Mount Pleasant neighborhood in Washington, DC.
Tree and Leaf has been farming in Virginia since 1998. Georgia O'Neal and Zachariah Lester started their CSA in 2002 and expanded to farmers' markets in 2003. Tree and Leaf practices intensive, sustainable vegetable, herb and flower farming using season extension, ridge-till, no-till and living mulch systems, Focusing on pro-biotic soil dynamics through use of effective micro-organisms, composting, legume cover crops, crop rotation and companion planting. No pesticides, herbicides or fungicides are used.
In August 2006, Eoin Wisdom Lester was born. Having outgrown their home, Georgia and Zach moved down the road to Wheatland Vegetable Farms in the winter of 2007. Surrounded by abundant fertile land, they decided to ask if they could farm a parcel. Over several winter farming discussions Chip and Susan Planck and Georgia and Zach came to a mutually beneficial agreement, one that would allow Tree and Leaf to grow and Wheatland Vegetable Farms to transition into its next phase.
Tree and Leaf's products can be bought at the Dupont Circle FRESHFARM Market.
