SAND HILL FARM
Caroline County, MD

While the queen stays home with the drones, all the other female bees of Sand Hill Farm spread over 36 acres in Greensboro, MD, to buzz among apple and peach blossoms and pollinate the crops. As the name implies, Sand Hill Farm is located on the Eastern Shore, close to Denton. Thanks to the hives on their land, Carmon and Charlene Dilworth bring honey and fragrant homemade soaps to the Penn Quarter and St. Michaels FRESHFARM Markets. In addition, they sell strawberries, spinach and lettuce through June, then peas, squash, melons and raspberries and fruit from their trees. For special dinner parties, look for the small bowl of quail eggs among their wares. The Dilworth family also sells at the farmers' market in Bowie, MD. For special orders such as squash blossoms, call 410.482.6128, April through October, between the hours of 9 am and 6 pm.
