ABOUT OUR MARKETS
FRESHFARM Markets operates 8 farmers' markets in the Chesapeake Bay region. In the District of Columbia, we operate markets in Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom, Penn Quarter and H Street NE. In Maryland, we operate markets in St. Michaels, Silver Spring, Harbor East and Annapolis. FRESHFARM Markets was founded in 1997 when we opened our first market at Dupont Circle.
Our markets are producer-only, which means that our farmers and producers may sell only what they grow, raise or make on their own farms. To the extent possible, they employ local ingredients in creation of their products: seasonal fruits and vegetables in jams and sauces; herbs and flowers in soaps; local meats, fish and vegetables in soups; milk and fruits in ice creams and sorbets; and eggs, meats, vegetables and cheeses in pastas and breads. Our farmers and producers generally come from the Chesapeake Bay watershed and within a 150-mile radius of Washington, DC.
All markets open and close with the ringing of a market bell and feature Chef at Market demos by renowned chefs, cookbook authors and passionate home cooks, who celebrate cooking with the seasonal foods in our region.
Since 1997, more than 100 tons of food has been donated to local emergency-food providers through FRESHFARM Markets' Gleaning program. In 2007,
16,870 pounds of fresh food were donated. (For more information about our gleaning partners, see Gleaning.)
See you at market!
